Howie's Knee Surgery - Send Food Pronto

From Howard Pee Pugpants:

Maw says in two days I'm getting extra treats cuz Dr. Radish is going to be operating on my knee tomorrow morning. Now I don't know much about surgery, but any doctor whose name is food is alright in my book. I have been getting all sorts of awards from my pals lately. I want to say thanks to all my pals cuz when I added it all up, I had twenty dozen and Annie only had three. So that means I am more popular and Annie is a L-O-S-E-R *Howie makes an L sign with his toes over his forehead* and mouths the word. Congrats to everypuggy who stole awards from this blog lately. I am proud of yew.

If you all don't hear from me fur a few days, it's because of the happy pills I will be takin.
Maw sez my blog posts are bad enough when I am not under the influence of narcotics. Please be thinking about me, k? Send me food, k? Good stuff. In case you don't got my address here it is:

Joshua the Pug - A Miracle Rescue Story

Joshua -- May 2009

Joshua -- June 2009

Dallas Fort Worth Pug Rescue takes in all pugs regardless of age or medical condition. DFW Pug Rescue volunteers work tirelessly to save every little pug we can. Here is the story of Joshua in the words of his foster mom, Joann. Joshua won her heart and Joann eventually adopted Joshua into her own family.
From Joann

In May I received a call to foster a pug in need. He had demodectic mange, hookworms, roundworms, tapeworms ~ the poor little guy. His name was Joshua and he looked awful. He had no hair, he had scabs everywhere, and he smelled really bad.

When I went to Westcreek and they brought him out, he was so sad looking. All I really saw was the most amazing, beautiful amber eyes asking for love! I took Joshua home and started making him welcome there. He was just a little shy at first, I think he knew how bad he looked and smelled. We did not not care, we started him on his meds and then baths.

He was not making a whole lot of improvement at first and then I thought, because he had developed some secondary infections on his skin, maybe I should just scrub him like a burn patient, so I did. After several scrubbings, the yeast and staph were gone. It left his skin really dry, so we started to bathe him with baby shampoo mixed with olive oil scalp treatment. We were amazed that after two shampoos his hair just started sprouting in so fast that in less than a week he was solid black again. He now has the softest skin and the shiniest coat.

Joshua has turned out to be the most beautiful black boy we had ever seen. He never once fussed about any treatment. He was always laid back and I think almost enjoying the baths and being showered with constant love. Of course, during all this treatment, we fell in love with little Joshua and chose to adopt him and make him a huge part of our family. He will be loved and taken care of like he deserves and will never have to go through all that again.

After many trips to the vet he is the best pug ever! We want to thank DFW Pug Rescue for saving Joshua and so many other poor pugs. If it were not for them many, many pugs would not be saved.

Howie's Shiny New Marvelous Award and a Gift For PacoPuggy

From Howard Pee Pugpants:

I got this here award from my good pal and staunch supporter StubbyPug recently. Notice how large and shiny it is, and how it sparkles in the light. I think it is a much better award than Anniebelly Fattypants got. She has been marchin around all week talking about how she is an "Award Winnin Pug" and I got to tell yew it is enough to make yew want to hurl.

Instead of sharing this award I'm gonna keep it all to myself, like I do all my awards. I am bizzy creating a new award, tho, and if yew are darn lucky I might let you share it. I can't decide whether it is going to be the MY MAW HUMILIATED ME ON MY BLOG AWARD or maybe the I PEED ON IT SO IT IS MINE AWARD.

This here award I'd like to share with my little buddy, PacoPuggy. He is gettin' real good at peein' on stuff and he's a great guy, even though he is admired by a kitty and all. Here you go Paco! enjoy!

Which one would you rather have? I personally like the first one, but that's just cause my middle name is Pee.

Let me know which one yew like best. Who knows. If I am in a good mood and Annie hasn't spanked me that day, I might choose the one yew like.

Feel free to steal these awards and paste 'em on yer blog if yew think yew earned 'em. Don't ask permission. Askin permission is fur sissypugs.

Annie Home From Hospital and a Very Special Award

Me snuggling Howie after my surgery. Mom said the vet kept my little mole.
I explained to him it was my beauty mark but he said it needed to go!

I'm feeling just fine now, but if Howie calls me FrankenPug
one more time I'm gonna go Matrix on him.

Thankyou for the award CocoPuggy! I am so honored!
I think this means Coco loves me, and who can blame him?
*bats eyelashes and blows Coco kisses*
I would like to share this award with my official
honeypot puggy, Bajas, whose mommy is traveling right now.
Here you go sweetie!

Texas Twisters Visit Howie's House

Howie and Annie Prepare Fur the Storm!

Last night we had twisters and thunderboomers in North Texas, with Flower Mound right in the center of the activity. At 6:15 pm, the tornado sirens started wailing. At 6:30 pm, the trees outside started whipping around and the wind started blowing UP from the ground. The doggy door flap flew open and stayed that way, a first! I grabbed blankets, pillows and the box of dog snacks and called the puggies to follow me into the bathroom. Annie had one of her new toys and thought this was going to be a great game of Keep Away from Mama. I finally had to grab her (and the beloved toy) and carry them into the bathroom with her brothers.

We were right under that red blob to the left of Dallas. Two tornados touched down in Flower Mound. This morning there were trees snapped in half throughout our neighborhood and roof shingles everywhere. It was a wild ride, but we survived! We're really lucky because the next door neighbors have two giant trees by our house and they had them both trimmed last week. Otherwise we may have had a lot more damage!

Thanks to everyone who sent warm wishes to Anniebelly for her surgery Tuesday. She is doing great and is especially enjoying her two new toys and her new bed.

Stay safe and dry out there! Over and out from Still Stormy Texas! xxxooo

Little Missy - Blind and Fearless

Missy, Age 1
Blind and Fearless!

I work with the Dallas pug rescue group, and we have been getting in so many pugs lately due to the economy. Here is the story of one little gal with courage and charisma who is looking for a furever home....

Missy

This my fellow Pug Lovers is Missy. She is all of a year old and has been dealt a real hard blow in life. When Missy was brought in to rescue recently, she had a severe eye injury that required her eye to be removed.Missy had not yet gotten her sutures out when she injured her other eye. As feared, she lost that eye as well. Missy is only a year old and now totally blind with no eyes at all but this has not dampened her Pug spirit.

Missy is a very happy little girl and her little donut tail waggles so hard, we fear she is going to lift off the ground soon. Dallas pug rescue has placed a lot of blind Pugs over the years into loving homes, and, as long as you are not a furniture mover, she will do fine.

The family that is fostering Missy owns a blind Pug that they have had since 1998, and you cannot tell she is blind. Blind Pugs do great if their humans can learn how to work with them. Please consider giving this Little Missy the home she deserves. You can find an application for her on the Dallas Fort Worth Pug Rescue web site at http://www.dfwpugs.com/.

Howie Concerned About Annie's Face

Notice the strange protruberance
that has suddenly appeared on
Annie's face.

From Dr. Howard Pee Pugpants, Fellow of the College of Puggy Plastic Surgery

This here is Dr. Howie. I present today the strange case of Annie's Facial Protruberance. *turns down lights and flips on laser pointer* Please try to control the urge to look away, or you won't learn anythin. This picture shows the protruberance as it suddenly appeared without warnin' yesterday on Annie's face, right after suppertime.

Maw and Paw don't seem to care, but being as I am a board certified puggy plastic surgeon, I immediately took note of the odd shaped growth. Now, granted, Annie's face always struck horror each time I looked upon it in the past, but now, with this new development, I think I have enough to submit a case report to the Journal of Maxillo-Facial Pug-Onometry.

Thank yew to everydoggy who has expressed their concern that I have to live with such a malformed creature. I am bearin up as best can be expected.

Linus Pug's Graduation Pawty

From LinusPuggy:

Welcome to my graduation pawty! This is me, Linus, in the blue harness,
beating up Scout. I learnt these manners in puppy school.

Aunt Nancy had pawty favors for all us puggies. I got the one with the biggest toy.

The humans got to eat all sorts yummy stuff. Wussup with that? It was my pawty!

This is me executin' a hairpin turn to avoid being captured.

I showed Aunt Nancy my appreciation by leaving her a souvenir of my muddy love.

Me and Uncle Java ran around a lot. This is us takin a break.

This is us runnin like the wind.

This is Java about to pounce.

This is me showing my puggy superpowers for
speed and supersonic mud accumulation.

We pugs like to run around trees a lot. I'm not sure why.
They didn't explain that in kindy-garden.

This is me, surrounded by my host puggies, about to be
devoured like a fig newton, undoubtedly.

I hope you enjoyed my pawty. Maw had to use four towels to wipe off the mud before she put me in the car to drive me home! Now THAT's a pawty!

Howie Enrolls Annie in Puggy Craig

Anniebelly, left, and Howie Pee, right,
about to partake of a treat
(Activity not sanctioned by Puggy Craig)

From Howie Pee Pugpants:

This here is Howie. Now I'm not exactly saying Annie is fat, but once saw her cut her toe and she bled gravy. So I'm providing some helpful suggestions for the gravitationally challenged.

I think by now yew have all had a chance to examine the forthwith previous documentation and will all agree Annie is a prime candidate for Puggy Craig. Notice the layers and layers of mooshiness in the picture above. *points to pug on the left* Now I didn't say that was fat, did I? The pug on the right is me, sleek, tall, good looking and exceptionally intelligent.

Now, take a look at the FAT DOG CHART I stole from Purina below that. It is clear that Annie fits all the parameters for excessive jiggliness. I have ordered a crate of them Puggy Craig dinners. I will eat the first crate for her, jest to make sure the food is safe.

Graduation Day for Linus

Hi, this here is Linus. I'm taking over Howie's blog today
to spread the good news. I graduated!!!

Mom says I may not have had the highest grade in the class,
but teacher said I was definitely the
student most interested in FOOD!

Saturday, Uncle Howie said he is gonna host a
pug graduation pawty for me at his house.
I wonder if he has told Aunt Nancy yet?

Howie Says Annie Has Swine Flu

Note the symptoms: flat nose, small eyes, fuzzy face...

A Goth piggy with multiple nose rings (and tattoos not shown).

From Howie Pee:

I have some jest turble news. Through scientific analysis and careful puggy observation, I have concluded my sister, Anniesmelly, has swine flu.

In addition to them pictures I posted, here are the facts:

1 - Annie has a flat nose
2 - Annie snorts like a pig
3 - Annie eats like a pig
4 - Annie gets real mad at me sometimes, and I think pigs probably would too, if they knew me
5 - Annie looks like a pig

I am not sure what to do, since obviously innocent pug-standers like me and Java have been exposed. So I have locked Anniesmelly in the garage with the trash cans until Mama comes home from work today. Jest ignore that banging sound. That's the wind. You won't want to be around later when Mama lets Annie out. It won't be pretty. *Howie packs bags and prepares to run for the hills.*

Linus Showin Off...Again

Do you recognize this handsome face? This is Linus Puppy! He came over a few weeks ago to show off his new Puppia harness. After conferring with his uncle Howard Pee, Linus specifically picked out the BLUE harness because he wanted to make sure no puggy mistook him for a sissypug.

Howie's Letter to the Pet Sitter

Dear Aunt Bitsy:

This here is your nephew, Howie Pee. Maw sez you are gonna be sittin on the house while she is gone this weekend. *looks with amazement up at rooftop* If you see any dang birds while yew are up there, could you catch me one?
My kittypal Jane tells me they are delishush.

Anyway, that is beside the point. I gots some important instructions fur you that maw probly forgot to mention in her haste to go far far away from her poor starvin unloved and fergottin puggies. Here are the instructions so pay attention.

Number One
Meals R IMPORTANT. We should have at least eight of these a day, in between snacks. And Don't skimp. It's imperative that the case of Merrick's Venison Stew is completely empty by the time maw gets home in 2 days.

Number Two
Annie will try to tell yew she is the boss o' me. She ain't, even tho she can whoop me whenever she feels like it. Just because I run behind Maw's legs when Annie starts chewing on me is no reason to think I am not the boss. That's why it is necessary fur you to throw Annie's favorite toy over the fence. That will keep her preoccupied until Maw gets home, and maybe even leave her bowl unattended at mealtime so I can clean that up for her.

Number Four. (WUTT? I can't count! I'm a PUG!!! sheesh)
At bedtime, we gots a certain routine and I don't want you to mess it up. Java needs a booster booster to git up on the bed. I don't need a booster booster cuz I am ATHLETIC HOWARD WONDERDOGGY. Annie needs a booster booster to get on the bed. Don't give her a booster. Don't ask why, just don't give her a booster, k?

When Java is ready to go to bed, he will go sit on the bathmat in front of the shower. That is Java's BOOSTER PAD. It is real important you wait for him to get sat down and ready for his booster. Don't try to sneak up behind him and grab him, that makes him real annoyed, and when he is annoyed, waves of cheesiness happen. Trust me on this. You don't want waves of cheesiness in the big bed.

Number Three.
Mealtimes are important. What? I KNOW I mentioned this one already, but it begs revisitin. In addition to the Merrick's stew fur doggies, which is good but not fillin, there is Country Cookout Kibble in the plastic container in the pantry. Mom probly forgot to tell you to leave that open for me when you are gone. Don't forget, k? Otherwise I could dry up and blow away. Annie will not dry up and blow away. She is little but that chick is stout.

If yew got any questions, don't call maw. She is bizzee. Just check with me. You know where to find me.

Love,
Pee

Annie Writes a Letter to the Easter BunnyPug

Dear Easter BunnyPug:

This here is Anniebelly. You remember me, I had my first easter last year in my new home with Howie Fartypants and Java SmellsCheesey, my new brothers. I've been really good so I just want one thing this year. To move in with Tweedles. Please see attached documentation to support my official request below. *Annie lowers lights and flips on laser pointer*

As you can see, Tweedles is given REAL delicious
eggs, while I am given, well, NOTHING. *cuts
googley little eyes at her mama*

Tweedles also receives magnificent bouquets of
tulips and easter themed flowers appropriate to
whichever holiday is currently on the puggy calendar.
As you can see from my empty vases *pronounced vaw-zez*
I get NOTHING. *looks pointedly again at her mama*

Easter BunnyPug, I have confidence in your ability to
immediately assess what I am about to say just from
one glance at this picture. If you need me to EXPLAIN
why I need to move in with TweedleyPug more, well,
you are certainly not the Bunny I originally took you for.
*Annie flick lights back up and catches Howie snoring
in back of room* I eagerly await the Easter BunnyPug
Bus that will take me to Tweedles House.

LOVE and KISSES with hearts and little flowers,
Anniebelly

Update - Schnauzer Reunited With Family!!

Howie and Pearl and all our puggy pals are celebrating today because the little Schnauzer I rescued yesterday went home to his family last night. One of our neighbors alerted one of their neighbors, and so on, until the family who was at church on Easter Sunday got home and called us to let us know their baby was sorely missed!

In all the excitement, I never got the name of the Schnauzer, so we shall call him Charlie because he was so quiet and unassuming. Charlie ate a big bowl of Merrick's venison stew while he was visiting. He demonstrated such gusto eating his stew, that I suspected Charlie was on a diet. Sure enough, Charlie's mom confirmed that he is quite the little piggy and will eat just about anything if you let him. *wonder to self, perhaps Charlie the Schnauzer is PART PUG???*

Charlie's mama was almost crying on the phone, she was so happy to hear we had him safe and sound. She and her family came over and picked him up pronto when they got home from church. They were not sure how he got out of the fence, and were going to check for holes immediately. We've had so much wind this week, perhaps a new hole had formed and Charlie made his escape to the house down the street that served Venison Stew.

We are so glad he is home. So many angels are hovering about Norwich Street this week. And for that, we are thankful.

Blessed - Howie Lost, Then Found

Howard Pee Pugpants
Adventure Pug by Day,
Snoozer Pug by Night

Howie slipped through the interior slatted fence yesterday and darted out of the yard while we were having repairwork done on our exterior fence. He was headed up the block toward a busy street when our neighbor, Alan, saw him. Alan had a treat in his hand and lured Howie over and grabbed his collar just as Carlos (Howie's dad) was running in their direction.

Needless to say, we are blessed this easter. Losing Howie's sister Winnie was the hardest thing ever last year, to encephalitis. I am thanking every angel in heaven today that our wonderful neighbor was watching out for us, and for Howie yesterday.

But that's not where the story ends. This morning, one day after Howie was returned safely home, I opened my studio blinds and saw a little Schnauzer in the rain, headed up the same block all by himself. I went outside quickly and walked briskly toward him and past him at an angle, acting casual so he would not be afraid and run. My goal, first, was to get him to head in the opposite direction, away from the busy street he was moving toward. My second goal was to catch him if I could. And he came right to me.

He was shivering and wet in my arms and listened quietly as I talked to him. I rang several doorbells up and down the street, but no one knew the little fellow. He had no ID tags, except for a Banfield vet clinic 800 number tag which no one answers on a Sunday and there was no answering machine.

So the little friendly schnauzer who has no nametag or ID is resting quietly in a crate, waiting to go to my vet's office in the morning. They will scan him for an identichip and then take him to the Flower Mound Shelter. We are fortunate to have a shelter that has a very high reunion rate and a very high adoption rate. As friendly and well behaved as this little boy is, I know he will be okay.

One good turn deserves another, yes? So if the angels who were watching over my little Howard yesterday for me are listening now, thank you for letting me pay someone back by finding their baby today. I am so hopeful he will be reunited with his family tonight.

A Long-Distance Puggy Affair

Hi, this here is Anniebelly. Today I want you to meet my
sweetiepuggy, Bajas who makes my heart go pitty pat.

Handsome, isn't he? Look at those dreamy nose folds and
those big brown eyes. He has been hiding under the covers lately,
but posed for a photoshoot for the pug-parazzi yesterday.

Bajas is not only handsome, he is a brave metropolitan
puggy who is not afraid to take the city bus in Norway.

This is Bajas' brother, Virus, who is a Devon Rex Kitty. Bajas said
he is pretty sure Virus is adopted, since they eat different food and all.

*I love you Bajas! I am sending you kisses Airmail to Norway from Texas!*
